4Writers4Love presents
A Friends-To-Lovers Collection by
Nia Forrester, Jacinta Howard, Lily Java, and Rae Lamar.
Four Stories. Four Authors. For Love.

“Acceptable Losses” by Nia Forrester Quentin is in the middle of a separation from his wife that seems to have no conclusive end in sight, while Lena is stuck in Single Girl Hell. The only respite either of them have is their regular coffee dates, while working on shared projects at a very demanding job. Sick of hearing about Lena’s semidisastrous attempts to couple-up, Quentin decides to fix her up. With his brother. Seems like a perfect solution; after all, his brother is a decent enough guy and Lena deserves that. Perfect ... until it appears that the fix-up might actually work.

“Blind Expectations” by Jacinta Howard Aristotle once said the only thing constant in life is change. Or was that Confucius? Whatever. People are fluid—they come into your life for a while, and when it’s time for them to float on, Leah has no qualms waving goodbye. The only exception is her neighbor and best friend, Trevor. When all else fails in her crazy world, Trevor is always there, reliable, steady… real. But then one night a heated argument leads to a revelation that shakes Leah to the core. Suddenly, Leah is forced to make a choice. But will her heart survive her decision?

“Blackbirds” by Lily Java Once upon a time Sydney Tarr and Elliott Vance were friends fast friends, ride or die, pledge of allegiance, take it to the mat, “friends”. And the fact that Sydney loved her friend more than she should didn’t matter until finally... one unusual and spectacular night, it did. It mattered very much. Still, not every story is a fairy tale is it? Friends do part -- sometimes forever -- but, not always.

“Blur” by Rae Lamar Jade Warner is back home. The bad part? Starting over. The best part? Reconnecting with Kyle Malone. Picking up where they left off years ago, it feels just like old times...except for the mutual attraction and questionable feelings, which are all brand new. For Jade and Kyle, it’s unthinkable to hook up given the history of their fail-safe friendship, but anything can happen when you live under the same roof...

Because My Heart Said So edition by Nia Forrester Jacinta Howard Lily Java Rae Lamar Literature Fiction eBooks

Because My Heart Said So is a friend to lovers collection by four authors who I have read and enjoyed all their books. The novellas are thematically collaborative but the distinct voices of the authors different styles shine through. I will start by saying I loved the book and stories in their entirety.

Nia Forrester's Unacceptable Losses explores Lena and Quentin's friendship and bond that leaps off the pages. Quentin is separated from his wife and takes a calculated risk in trying to hook Lena up with someone else. The interactions were witty and real and per usual had me talking to the characters. It's also a cautionary tale in many ways about dealing with your feelings before they deal with you.

Jacinta Howard Blind Expectations brought Trevor and Leah and I felt Leah in all her free spirited miscalculations. She lived as she saw fit and didn't always make solid choices, yet I genuinely got her. Trevor was all in from the gate with his feelings for her but gets humanized by outside influences. I truly want to know how their relationship plays out, long term.

Blackbirds by Lily Java had me filled with memories, personal ones. Sydney and Elliot were separated for years before being in the same space and time again. The story felt so intimate and filled with possibilities once the layers were peeled away. I loved getting to know their before and nows.

Blur by Rae Lamar is a walking away to return again story. Jade returns home after three years in a relationship filled with bad mutual choices and becomes friends again with Kyle who she shares history with. I enjoyed the humorous drama of their relationship.

This is one of the best anthologies I have read where I enjoyed all the offerings and I recommend Because My Heart Said So in its entirety. I also wait to read the stories in full length. Great Job.

Because My Heart Said So edition by Nia Forrester Jacinta Howard Lily Java Rae Lamar Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Four well-told stories by four amazing authors.. This much anticipated collection of amazing stories did not disappoint. Lily Java, and Rae Lamar were both new authors for me.. Nia Forrester started off with a bang.. Wow! Lena and Quentin's story was a nice take on friends to lovers. The initial shock of the two not wanting to damage a long term friendship if their relationship as a couple failed. So Quentin got a bright idea that had me laughing out loud.. His solution to his Lena dilemma was laughable.. The connection between the two was easy to see and believe. The struggle was real... A nice start... The second story was Jacinta Howards, and as always she did a masterful job of bringing to life Leah and Trevor's story.. Their story began with Lena's man leaving her stranded on the busy 285 exchange in Atlanta, and she had to call her neighbor and friend Trevor to rescue her.. Leah made the challenge to get from friends to lovers difficult because she would not get out of her own head and see the love of her life was just a few feet away.. This couple is my other the next couple I love... This was a SUPERB Read... The third installment was by Lily Java.. Her story followed Sydney and Elliott, Sydney was another of the female leads who was just too into her self doubts to see the realness in Elliot's responses to her. Nice addition to this collection. The fourth and final story was Jade and Kyle's story. This my friends-- the icing on the cake. Kyle was most likely the most patient of all the leading men. This story also started out with a break up scene with Jade confessing to Mark that she'd cheated on him. Then later having to move back home with her mother. The chaser was running into her old friend Kyle.. The fact that she could not see Kyles passion for her had me wondering if maybe Ray Charles could have shown them a better way to see love shown rather than spoken.. Kyle also had the patience of Job with Jade.. I wanted to shake her a few times.. Each story overall was simply amazing..
This collaborative creation was everything and more. All four authors penned robust stories with dazzling characters, palpable chemistry, engaging dialogue and so much love. Throughout the collection I was reminded of the ways in which attraction is usually beyond one’s control while love, trust, and commitment are deliberate choices. Each novella is meaningful and adds a unique contribution to the book. ‘Blind Expectations,’ however, was my personal favorite. Leah’s uncertainty, her insecurities...they made so much sense to me. And Trevor’s unwavering faith in them and love for her was inspiring (and also sexy as hell!). Even though each story had a fulfilling ending, I had lingering questions about the futures of each couple, especially Jade and Kyle from ‘Blur.’ Out of all the stories, that one definitely had the slowest burn. And just when things got really interesting, the novella concluded. But, since each of the authors plans to publish a full-length novel to further explore these couples and their relationships, each ending was really a wonderful beginning. I definitely recommend the collection, and I'm anticipating the forthcoming novels!
